IDENTITY & MATCHING

Respectful matching without defining people

We want to create an experience that feels inclusive, thoughtful, and respectful for everyone.

Gender identity and attraction are complex. Our goal is not to put anyone into a box, but to create the most accurate and respectful matching experience we can.

How we think about identity at Duck Dating Apps

We aim to create an inclusive and respectful experience for everyone. We understand that gender identity and attraction are complex, and while we strive to accommodate as many identities and preferences as possible, we recognize that our current options may not perfectly reflect everyone’s experience.

Our structure is inspired by the Genderbread Person model. Check the website for more details .

This framework helps us organize matching in a practical way, but it is not meant to define or limit anyone’s identity.

To approach this thoughtfully, we’ve consulted many friends from both heteronormative and queer communities to get feedback on this topic. Interestingly, we’ve received differing and sometimes opposing feedback.

On one hand, we want to avoid placing anyone in an “Other” category, as this can feel diminishing or exclusionary. On the other hand, we also want to avoid labeling people as “Cis” or “Trans” in a way that could imply they are not simply men or women.

Our intention is never to categorize or define identities, but purely to create the most accurate and respectful matching experience possible.

If something feels missing, unclear, or could be improved, we genuinely welcome your feedback and suggestions. We are continuously learning and refining this process to better serve all participants.

Thank you for your understanding and support 💛

1. We are trying to be practical

Matching needs some structure. We use a framework so people can actually be grouped and matched in a useful and respectful way.

2. We know no framework is perfect

Identity and attraction are nuanced and personal. Our current options may not fully reflect every lived experience, and we want to stay honest about that.

3. We welcome feedback

If something feels off, missing, or unclear, we truly want to hear from you. We are learning and refining this process continuously.

Help us improve this

We’d rather keep refining than pretend we’ve solved it perfectly. If you have thoughts, feedback, or suggestions, we’d genuinely love to hear from you.
